On Wednesday, May 16th, Republicans in the House of Representatives passed their version of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (H.R. 4970). While on the surface the passage of this bill may seem a success, it is the opposite. This bill actually decreases protection of victims of sexual assault and denies necessary support to immigrant and native women, students on college campuses, and LGBT persons. Women need to be protected from sexual violence regardless of their residency status, sexual orientation, or any other reason. President Obama has issued a statement saying that upon being presented with the bill, he would most likely veto it. What YOU need to do is show your support for President Obama’s veto plan

Contact President Obama and tell him that you support his plan to veto this terrible legislation.
