Good news from the HRC. It is comforting to see that LGTB seniors are beginning to be un-invisible and that human rights and kindness is being extended to them. In October, the Department of Health and Human Services revealed plans to create a national resource center for LGBT elders. Today, HHS announced that its Administration on Aging had awarded funds to create that resource center to Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE). SAGE is the oldest and largest organization serving LGBT older adults and HRC has partnered with the group to provide aging resources on our website. According to the announcement, SAGE will be awarded $900,000 over three years and will partner with other organizations to create, among other tools, a “comprehensive web-based clearinghouse” on LGBT aging issues.
