Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.7, known as the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.” This bill would, among other things, allow the IRS to decide whether a woman has been raped or if her pregnancy is dangerous to her health.
Do you know how your representative voted? [To find out, go to http://action.now.org/o/5996/t/0/blastContent.jsp?email_blast_KEY=158132]
A federally mandated “rape audit” is just one of the horrifying features of this outrageous bill being pushed by regressive Republicans.
Survivors of rape and incest, along with women whose lives are endangered by their pregnancy, are exempted from the prohibition, but that means any woman who pays for her abortion under one of these exemptions must be audited “to prevent tax fraud.”
The House passed this resolution today — in 2014. Thank those who stood up for women’s rights; spank those who think women’s bodies are not their own.
Abortion taxes and rape audits should have no place in U.S. politics. They restrict women’s access to abortion care and punish businesses smart enough to understand that a woman’s body is her own.
We refuse to return to the back alley. Take action now!
Thanks for all you do to protect women’s health and lives.
