Presently 40% of WA hospital beds are in religiously affiliated hospitals. The impact of this shift is potentially disastrous, particularly in areas where such a hospital is the only one available. For instance, Catholic-affiliated hospitals follow the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, which restrict access to reproductive (contraception, Emergency Plan B even after a rape, abortion) and end-of-life health services, counseling and referrals.
