Seattle NOW President Kjersten Gmeiner introducing Gerry Ebalaroza-Tunnell, PhDc

At our March member meeting, Seattle NOW was joined by Mara Lim with Days for Girls International (DfG) who gave an engaging presentation on the important work her organization does.

The DfG mission is to “increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating social enterprises, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigmas and limitations for women and girls.” They accomplish this by preparing and distributing sustainable menstrual health solutions to those who would otherwise miss school during their monthly periods. Those in attendance helped make an impact by cutting pieces of fabric the nonprofit uses to create the DfG PODs (Portable Objects of Dignity) they distribute.

Gerry Ebalaroza-Tunnell, PhDc, discussing intersectional feminism

After hearing from Mara, a lively discussion geared towards intersectional activism was led by guest Gerry Ebalaroza-Tunnell, PhDc, the founder of the Nā Wahine o ka Mana- The Power of Women International Summit.
